Turkey invests heavily in artificial intelligence with training for 5 million people

Turkey has recently launched a comprehensive national initiative in artificial intelligence (AI).

The project aims to significantly strengthen the country’s capacity within AI technology, with a specific focus on data protection, the development of domestic computing infrastructure, and the production of Turkish AI models.

An ambitious element of the programme involves providing AI training to 5 million people, underlining Turkey' s desire to position itself as a central participant in future global decision-making processes.

This strategic initiative is rooted in the acknowledgement that AI will shape the economy, defence, and society of the future.

By prioritising the protection of national data, Turkey is ensuring digital sovereignty in an increasingly data-driven world.

The development of robust computing infrastructure, such as data servers and supercomputers, is essential for powering advanced AI applications and supporting the creation of complex AI models. The goal of producing domestic AI models is central to avoiding dependence on foreign technology and enabling the customisation of solutions to meet Turkey’s specific needs.

This encompasses everything from AI for the healthcare and agricultural sectors to advanced systems for defence and public services.

Developing AI models internally grants the country greater control over algorithms and data, as well as the ability to innovate rapidly.

Educating 5 million people in artificial intelligence represents a massive investment in Turkey' s future workforce and skill base.

This will contribute to creating a broader understanding of AI across various sectors, drive innovation, and ensure the country possesses sufficient qualified personnel to implement and further develop AI solutions.

It serves as recognition that human capital is just as important as technological infrastructure in the AI era.

This national AI strategy signals Turkey' s intention to be a significant player on the global technology stage.

By establishing a strong foundation in AI, the country seeks to gain a voice in international discussions regarding AI regulation, ethics, and application.

This may also have implications for cooperation with countries in Europe and NATO, where shared standards and technological advancements in AI are becoming increasingly important for security and economic development.

The initiative reflects a wider trend in which nations are investing heavily in strategic technologies to secure future growth and influence.
