Baykar and T3 launch AI mini-computer for autonomous systems

The Turkish defence and technology giant Baykar, in partnership with the T3 Foundation, has unveiled the ' T3 Gemstone O1', a new proprietary mini-computer powered by artificial intelligence.

This pioneering device is designed to serve as a processing and control hub for various autonomous platforms, including unmanned aerial vehicles, ground vehicles, and maritime vessels.

This initiative underscores Turkey' s commitment to developing advanced, indigenous technological solutions within strategically vital sectors.

The new mini-computer represents a critical component in bolstering Turkey' s independence within the field of autonomous systems.

The T3 Gemstone O1 will enable more sophisticated decision-making and control for unmanned systems, which is essential for both military and civilian applications.

By providing this type of domestic technology, Turkey reduces its reliance on foreign components and strengthens its standing as a key player in high-tech development. Baykar and the T3 Foundation have announced that the T3 Gemstone O1 will be made available without profit to TEKNOFEST teams and educational institutions.

This measure is intended to foster innovation and skill-building among young talent and researchers in Turkey.

By granting access to advanced hardware, the initiative stimulates the development of new applications and technologies that can contribute to the nation' s technological future.

The T3 Foundation, renowned for organising TEKNOFEST – Turkey' s largest aviation, space, and technology festival – plays a central role in promoting technological education and innovation.

By distributing the T3 Gemstone O1 free of charge to these groups, they ensure that the engineers and researchers of tomorrow gain practical experience with state-of-the-art AI and control systems.

This could potentially accelerate the development of new Turkish technological solutions across various sectors. The development of the T3 Gemstone O1 has significant implications for Turkey' s defence industry, particularly given Baykar' s prominent role as a manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles such as the Bayraktar TB2 and Akıncı.

A domestically developed control unit featuring AI will be able to improve the performance, security, and autonomy of these systems, potentially contributing to future export opportunities.

This strengthens Turkey' s position as a major provider of defence and aerospace technology internationally, including for NATO allies and other partners.

In the long term, this type of core competency in artificial intelligence and autonomous systems can also be transferred to other industrial sectors, such as transport, energy, and logistics, to promote further digitalisation and efficiency.

Investment in national technology development and the education of talent is crucial for Turkey' s economic growth and national security in the 21st century.
