Alanya celebrates Victory Day with popular SUP event on the sea

Alanya recently celebrated the significant national Victory Day, known as Zafer Bayramı, with a lively stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) event.

This festive occasion, organised in collaboration between the Alanya City Council (Alanya Kent Konseyi) and Supmarina Alanya, took place in Alanya’s unique blue waters and attracted significant attention from both local residents and visitors.

Victory Day is traditionally marked on 30 August each year to commemorate the decisive victory in the Battle of Dumlupınar in 1922, which paved the way for the establishment of the Republic of Turkey.

While the event was originally scheduled for this date, it had to be postponed due to unfavourable weather conditions.

However, it was successfully carried out on 2 September 2026, contributing to a continued festive atmosphere in the city. The participants of the SUP event were given a unique opportunity to combine sport with patriotism.

As the paddleboarders navigated Alanya’s coastline, the Turkish flag became a prominent symbol set against the deep blue hues of the sea.

According to the organisers, the event was met with great interest, underlining Alanya’s ability to engage the public in local celebrations through creative methods.

For tourists, Nordic readers, and foreign residents in the region, such an event highlights Alanya’s vibrant calendar of festivities and the opportunities to participate in or observe local traditions.

It demonstrates how the city integrates national holidays with recreational activities, providing visitors with an authentic insight into Turkish culture while they enjoy the region' s stunning natural surroundings and water sports offerings.

The event serves as an example of how Alanya offers more than just sun and beaches; it is also a place where one can experience unity and local festivities.

By including water sports like SUP in public celebrations, Alanya highlights its appeal as a destination for active holidays.

For those planning a visit, it is worth staying updated on local events to make the most of your stay and experience the local atmosphere.

Such occasions provide a unique opportunity to engage with the local community and understand the cultural currents in this popular resort town.
