Alanya: Pedestrians Frustrated as Construction Blocks Pavements

Pedestrians in Alanya’s central Güllerpınarı district are experiencing significant frustration due to ongoing urban renewal construction. Safety barriers erected around a building undergoing demolition in Yenilmez Street have completely blocked the pavement, forcing passers-by to walk in the busy roadway.

These temporary safety plates, intended to secure the construction site, extend across the entire pavement, leaving no adequate passage. This creates hazardous situations, forcing pedestrians to share space with cars, motorcycles, and buses, significantly increasing the risk of accidents. The situation is particularly challenging for parents with strollers and individuals with mobility issues.

While the building’s demolition is part of Alanya’s comprehensive urban renewal programme, aimed at modernising city infrastructure, critics argue that temporary solutions should not compromise public safety and comfort. Frustrated residents and visitors are urging authorities and contractors to implement better site security measures that ensure safe passage for pedestrians, such as clear walkways or alternative, safe routes during ongoing works.
