Antalya experiences decline in visitor numbers for September 2026

The popular Turkish holiday destination of Antalya experienced a significant decline in visitor numbers in September 2026.

A total of 2,147,743 tourists arrived in the region during the month, which is 3.5 per cent lower than in the same period the previous year.

This trend indicates a broader shift in the tourism market, as 19 of the 31 countries that send tourists to Antalya are also showing falling figures. Antalya is renowned for its sunny beaches, luxurious resorts and rich cultural heritage, and has long been a major draw for travellers from all over the world, including many Nordic tourists.

Such a shift in the market can impact everything from the atmosphere of the destination to price levels and service offerings, making this relevant for anyone considering a holiday there in the time ahead. A decline in visitor numbers can have several practical consequences for holidaymakers.

Fewer tourists often mean less congestion at popular attractions, beaches and restaurants.

This can contribute to a more relaxed and authentic experience, where it is easier to access the most sought-after locations without long queues or large crowds.

For many, this is a desired effect that significantly improves the quality of their holiday. Furthermore, changes in demand can also lead hotels and tour operators to adjust their prices and offerings to attract remaining travellers.

This can potentially result in more competitive pricing for accommodation, package holidays and local services.

In other words, travellers may find better deals or more flexible booking conditions as a result of the changing market situation in Antalya. The fact that 19 out of 31 tourist markets are showing a decline suggests that this is not an isolated event linked to one specific source, but rather a broader restructuring in the international travel industry that is affecting Antalya.

Over time, this could lead to a change in the composition of visitors, which in turn could influence local infrastructure and services.

For example, restaurants and shops may adapt to the preferences of new nationalities, and the destination as a whole could evolve in a slightly different direction. For those planning a trip to Antalya, it may be wise to keep an eye on developments in pricing and availability.

Reduced pressure on popular areas can provide a quieter holiday experience, and the possibility of more favourable prices may make the trip more attractive.

Such a market shift also gives the travel industry in Antalya an opportunity to evaluate and adapt its offerings to meet new needs and trends in global tourism.
