Final of the TEKNOFEST Vertical Rocket Landing Competition

Attention is now turning to the final of the TEKNOFEST 2026 vertical rocket landing competition, where 15 qualified teams are set to demonstrate advanced space technology.

The event is taking place at the TÜBİTAK SAGE campus, a central research and development hub in Turkey.

The core of the competition revolves around mastering the controlled and autonomous landing of rockets, a capability that is critical for the reusable space systems of the future and for Turkey' s growing technological ambitions.

Participants will compete to manoeuvre their self-developed rockets onto a specified target surface with both precision and autonomy.

This requires complex navigation systems, advanced sensors and real-time data processing to adjust the rocket' s position and velocity during its descent.

The challenge lies in achieving a stable and secure landing, akin to the technologies employed by leading aerospace organisations globally. TEKNOFEST, Turkey' s largest aviation, aerospace and technology festival, provides the platform for this prestigious competition.

The festival is organised in collaboration with the Turkish Ministry of Technology and the T3 Foundation, with the aim of inspiring young innovators and driving national technological development.

TÜBİTAK SAGE, the host of the final, is Turkey' s premier institute for defence research, renowned for its work on rocket and missile systems, which underlines the strategic significance of this technology.

The ability to perform vertical rocket landings is essential for the development of reusable spaceflight systems.

This significantly reduces the costs of space launches, makes space travel more accessible and contributes to more sustainable operations.

The technology has direct applications in satellite launches, space exploration and potentially in the development of advanced unmanned aerial vehicles and defence systems.
