First stage of TEKNOFEST drone championship held in Şırnak

The first stage of the prestigious Drone Championship, organised as part of Turkey' s extensive Aviation, Space and Technology Festival (TEKNOFEST), has recently been held in the south-eastern city of Şırnak.

The event, which took place at Şırnak City Stadium, brought together 32 licensed competitors from 11 different provinces.

This underscores Turkey' s dedication to promoting technological innovation and building expertise within the critically important field of drone technology on a national basis.

TEKNOFEST is a national initiative and one of Turkey' s largest technology festivals, established with the goal of inspiring and educating young talent in science, engineering and technology.

The festival serves as a platform for a variety of technology competitions, ranging from robotics and artificial intelligence to aerospace technology.

The drone championship is a central element that gives participants a unique opportunity to showcase their skills and develop advanced solutions within unmanned aviation. The event in Şırnak is strategically important, as it contributes to spreading interest in high technology and innovation beyond Turkey' s traditional technological hubs.

Drone technology is an area of enormous strategic significance for Turkey, especially within the defence industry, where unmanned aerial systems (UAS) have become a cornerstone of the country' s defence capability.

Beyond military applications, drones are also crucial for fields such as logistics, agriculture, infrastructure inspection and emergency services.

Through such national competitions, Turkey not only stimulates an early interest in engineering among the youth, but also lays the foundation for future research and development.

This helps to create a strong national ecosystem for technological innovation, which is essential for reducing reliance on foreign technology and for building a robust domestic industry.

The focus on drone technology is directly linked to the country' s ambitions for technological independence and leadership in the region. The participation of licensed competitors from different parts of the country signals a broad and growing competence base.

By investing in events like this, Turkey is actively working to develop a qualified workforce capable of meeting the technological challenges of tomorrow.

This will strengthen the country' s competitiveness on the global stage and contribute to Turkey' s long-term goal of positioning itself as a central player in the development of pioneering technology.
