Heatwave Grips Antalya, Affecting Daily Life and Tourism

Antalya, a popular destination for international tourists, is currently experiencing a severe heatwave that has significantly impacted daily life in the city. High humidity levels, combined with already warm temperatures, make the heat feel extremely oppressive, particularly during midday.

While the actual temperature registers 38 degrees Celsius, the elevated humidity contributes to a perceived temperature that is significantly higher. It is anticipated that the ‘felt’ temperature could reach as high as 44 degrees Celsius during the afternoon, making outdoor activities particularly challenging.

To escape the scorching conditions, both local residents and foreign holidaymakers have flocked to the city’s beaches and coastal areas. Here, they find relief in the sea and benefit from cooler breezes, offering a much-needed respite from the intense heat affecting the city centre.

Visitors to the Antalya region are advised to take precautions during these extreme weather conditions. It is crucial to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration and to stay in the shade as much as possible, especially when the sun is at its strongest.

Planning activities for early mornings or late afternoons and evenings, when temperatures are somewhat lower, is recommended. Wearing light clothing, sunscreen, and a sun hat can help protect against heatstroke. Many hotels also provide air-conditioned indoor spaces and swimming pools as safe havens from the heat.
