New direct flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen to Tripoli, Libya

Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport is expanding its route network with new direct flights to Tripoli, the capital of Libya.

These new flights represent a significant milestone for the airport, which continues to strengthen its position as a regional hub while offering travellers fresh opportunities to connect to North Africa.

This expansion provides passengers with increased flexibility and reduced travel times to this part of the region. Initially, the new routes will operate four days a week.

Following 19 October 2026, the frequency will be significantly increased to include daily flights.

This increase reflects anticipated demand and a strong commitment to the route, which will make travel to and from Tripoli even more accessible for both business travellers and other passengers. Sabiha Gökçen Airport, located on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, is one of Turkey’s largest airports and a vital gateway for international travellers.

The introduction of direct flights to Tripoli underscores the airport' s strategy to expand its network and offer seamless connections between Europe, Asia, and now North Africa.

For passengers, this means fewer layovers and more efficient travel itineraries. This route expansion is particularly relevant for travellers who use Istanbul as a transit point.

This includes business people with ties to Libya, individuals visiting family or friends, and others who require a direct connection.

The ability to travel directly eliminates the complexity of having to coordinate multiple flights and potential long waiting times. The transition to daily flights from mid-October 2026 will provide travellers with maximum flexibility.

Whether for short business trips, extended stays, or the need to travel on specific days, daily departures will make planning much easier.

The increased frequency also helps to ensure availability, even during periods of high demand. For Nordic travellers, or other international visitors in Turkey, this also means that Istanbul strengthens its role as an efficient gateway to a wider geographical area.

A range of international connections makes it easier to combine travel to Turkey with onward journeys, or to use Istanbul as a central hub for travel to other parts of the world.

These new direct routes contribute to improving the overall travel experience by offering faster and more direct options to Libya via Istanbul.
