Schengen Visa Syndicate Exposed: Family from Alanya Among Those Arrested

A large-scale police operation targeting organized fraud involving Schengen visas has led to arrests across six Turkish cities, including Antalya.

The investigation revealed that various firms and individuals had been illicitly using bot software to hijack highly sought-after visa appointments, subsequently selling them for illicit profit.

Among those apprehended are several members of the K. family from Alanya, who are now the subject of a formal judicial investigation.

This fraudulent activity has had direct consequences for travellers, foreign residents, and tourists in the Alanya and Antalya regions who require Schengen visas to travel to Europe.

The operation, which took place on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, spanned major cities including Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Balıkesir, Bursa, and Izmir.

The objective was to uncover and dismantle networks that were systematically manipulating the visa application process. By utilising automated software, commonly referred to as bots, these actors managed to reserve a large number of available appointment slots for Schengen visa applications almost immediately after they were released.

These unlawfully acquired appointments were then sold to visa applicants, often at a significant mark-up.

Such practices have not only created a bottleneck in the official visa application system but have also exploited individuals with a legitimate need to travel.

Consequently, many honest applicants have found it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to secure an appointment directly through official visa centres.

The involvement of the K. family from Alanya demonstrates that this form of organised crime has extended into regions popular with foreign residents and tourists.

For Nordic travellers, other foreign residents, and those planning extended stays in the Alanya and Antalya area, access to Schengen visas is often essential for visiting family in their home countries or travelling on holiday to other European nations. The legal proceedings against those arrested are now underway, and they will face judicial processing as suspects in the case.

This development underscores the importance of exercising extreme caution when applying for a visa and ensuring that only recognised and official channels are used.

Travellers in the Alanya and Antalya region are strongly urged to avoid unofficial intermediaries and to always verify information against the official websites of embassies or visa centres to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
