Selçuk Bayraktar attends drone championship in Şırnak and predicts a technological upswing

Selçuk Bayraktar, a prominent figure in Turkey' s technology sector, recently took part in the TEKNOFEST drone championships held in Şırnak, a city in south-eastern Turkey.

Serving as chairman for both TEKNOFEST and the Türkiye Technology Team Foundation (T3 Foundation), Bayraktar emphasised the significance of the event and the future role the region will play in technological advancement.

During his visit, Bayraktar shared a vision in which the technological future of the country will emerge from the south-east.

He stated: " The wind of the technological climate will blow from the south-east.

Just as the history of civilisation began in these lands, the winds of technology will be revived from these fertile lands." This declaration underscores an ambition to reclaim the region' s historical significance as a centre of innovation, now focused on high-end technology. TEKNOFEST is Turkey' s largest technology festival, renowned for promoting aerospace, space science, and technological innovations through various competitions and exhibitions.

The drone championships are a central component of this festival, designed to inspire young talent and develop expertise in robotics and unmanned technology.

These events provide a platform for students and engineers to showcase and refine their skills in drone design, programming, and piloting.

Drone technology is a high-priority area for Turkey' s technological growth, with applications ranging from defence and security to agriculture, logistics, and infrastructure inspection.

By hosting such championships in regions like Şırnak, TEKNOFEST and the T3 Foundation are helping to spread enthusiasm for technology and expertise beyond traditional technological hubs, laying the groundwork for a broader national culture of innovation. Bayraktar' s involvement in Şırnak and his confidence in the region highlight a strategic commitment to regional development through technology.

It indicates a desire to harness the talent potential of the entire country, ensuring that technological progress is not limited to a few major cities, but contributes to growth and development throughout Turkey.

This could have significant social and economic ripple effects for south-eastern Turkey by creating new jobs and educational opportunities within the technology sector.

Initiatives such as these are also vital to Turkey' s overarching goal of achieving technological independence and increasing its international competitiveness.

By investing in education and innovation within key areas such as drone technology, Turkey is strengthening its position as an actor on the global technology stage and may contribute to the export of domestically developed solutions to international markets and partners.
