Slower revenue growth in the Turkish hotel industry – new focus on profitability

Growth in revenue from Turkey' s accommodation sector has slowed significantly during the first five months of 2026.

Although tourism continues to flourish with a high number of visitors, this development signals a strategic shift for hotels, which are now focusing their attention on increasing profitability per room.

New figures from the first half of 2026 show a noticeable decline in the pace of revenue growth across the hotel and accommodation industry throughout Turkey.

This trend is evident despite the fact that the country continues to attract a large number of tourists from international markets, which indicates that volume alone is no longer driving the same revenue growth as it has in the past. Analysis of the sector suggests that it is now entering a new operational phase.

Previously, the focus has often been on maximising the number of guests and total turnover.

Going forward, hotels will to a greater extent prioritise optimising the profit from each individual room, as well as overall profitability.

This represents a shift in how accommodation providers manage their available capacity and set prices for their services and packages.

This shift towards increased profitability per room means that the industry is likely to take a close look at all cost aspects and revenue streams.

Hotels may become more selective regarding which segments they target, and they may also re-evaluate the pricing of supplementary services such as restaurants, spas, and excursions to maximise revenue from each guest. For travellers, including Nordic tourists planning a trip to Turkey, this change may have tangible consequences.

It could mean that hotels will be less inclined to offer large discounts or run extensive campaigns to fill rooms at any price.

The focus on profitability per room may lead to more consistent and potentially higher price levels, especially for spontaneous bookings or during peak season.

Tourists can therefore expect an adjustment in the prices and offers available, and it may become increasingly important to plan and book well in advance to secure the best rates. Source: Turizmguncel
