Turkey expands support for young people getting married

The Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Services, known as Aile ve Sosyal Hizmetler Bakanlığı, has announced a significant adjustment to its " Support Project for Young People Getting Married" (Evlenecek Gençlerin Desteklenmesi Projesi).

The scope of the project is to be significantly expanded from 2027.

The primary goal of this change is to ensure that young adults, particularly those from low- and middle-income groups, gain better access to and can benefit from the financial support schemes offered.

This strategic initiative is designed to ease the financial burden for young couples preparing to establish their own households in Turkey. The current implementation of the project already offers a certain form of assistance, but the plans for 2027 involve a marked increase in accessibility.

The expansion will make it possible for a larger proportion of qualified young people to receive the necessary support, which is crucial in a time of varying living costs.

The purpose is to create a more robust economic foundation for young couples, so that they can start their marriage with greater financial security and fewer worries. Reinforced financial supportThe upcoming improvements are targeted at prioritising young individuals and couples who belong to the low- and middle-income segments of the population.

This specific prioritisation reflects the authorities' deliberate strategy of channelling resources to where the need is greatest, thereby dampening the initial financial challenges often associated with entering into marriage and establishing a joint home.

The project acknowledges that these groups are particularly vulnerable to economic fluctuations and high start-up costs. Significance for Turkish householdsThe initiative has potentially large economic consequences for thousands of Turkish households.

By offering direct financial support to young people who are preparing for marriage, the project could contribute to an improvement in purchasing power and a reduction of the early debt burden for the newly married.

This could free up important funds that would otherwise have been tied up in establishment costs, and instead stimulate increased consumption or private investment in Turkey' s local economy.

The support is therefore not just a social measure, but also a tool for promoting economic stability and growth, and could influence the general economy positively by strengthening confidence among young adults. Source: Haberglobal
