Turkey’s new National Solidarity and Security Council holds its inaugural meeting
Turkey' s newly formed Monitoring and Evaluation Council, established under the country' s National Solidarity Law (Milli Dayanışma Yasası), held its first meeting at the Presidential Complex (Cumhurbaşkanlığı Külliyesi) in Ankara.
Chaired by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, the meeting brought together key ministers and security chiefs to coordinate and oversee a process aimed at ensuring a stable and secure ' Turkey without terrorism'.
This initial gathering marks a significant step in the implementation of comprehensive national strategies directed at the country' s security and stability. The list of attendees underscored the council' s high political and security significance.
Present were the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of the Interior, and the Minister of National Defence.
Additionally, the head of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) and the Secretary-General of the National Security Council (MGK) participated.
The council has been mandated to carry out rigorous monitoring, effective coordination, and to ensure the legal implementation of the processes defined in the National Solidarity Law.
This includes a continuous review of progress and the identification of challenges related to the country' s national security policy. A primary item on the agenda for the inaugural meeting was the strategy for establishing and operating the specialised sub-committees (ihtisas alt kurulları).
These sub-committees are intended to play a decisive role in executing operational processes directly in the field.
Their work is essential for translating the council’s overarching strategic decisions and guidelines into concrete and practical actions on the ground.
This structure is designed to ensure both efficiency and precision in addressing security challenges. The creation of the Monitoring and Evaluation Council under the National Solidarity Law reflects a reinforced effort by Turkey to strengthen national security and adopt a holistic approach to combating terrorism.
The goal of a ' Turkey without terrorism' is a fundamental pillar of the incumbent government' s policy, and this newly established council is intended to function as a central coordinating unit in this persistent national endeavour.
The first meeting thus lays an important foundation for future, cross-sectoral cooperation between the country' s highest security and administrative bodies.
