Turkey’s tourism revenue reaches $25.7 billion in the first half of the year

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that Turkey' s tourism revenue reached 25 billion 746 million US dollars during the first half of the current year.

The statement was made in connection with World Tourism Day, where the President also confirmed that the country aims to achieve total tourism earnings of 65 billion dollars by the end of the year. This significant income underscores the growing role of tourism as a central contributor to the Turkish economy.

The target of 65 billion dollars by the end of the year reflects an ambitious, yet essential strategy to strengthen the country' s economic resilience and foreign exchange reserves. Tourism is a vital sector for Turkey, not only because of the direct revenue it generates but also for its broader positive effects.

The inflow of foreign currency from tourists contributes significantly to the country' s balance of payments and can help stabilise the Turkish lira.

A stronger lira may, in turn, dampen inflationary pressure by reducing the costs of imported goods, which is a crucial factor for household purchasing power. Furthermore, tourism creates a large number of jobs, both directly in hotels, restaurants, and travel agencies, and indirectly in related industries such as transport, food production, and handicrafts.

Achieving the established tourism targets is therefore essential for maintaining employment levels and stimulating economic activity in many regions of the country. The expected high tourism revenues have positive consequences for both Turkish households and businesses.

A flourishing tourism sector entails increased demand for goods and services from local producers, which supports small and medium-sized enterprises.

This can lead to higher earnings and investments in the sector, which in turn strengthens the national economy. For tourists, travellers, and foreign residents in Turkey, a robust tourism economy can contribute to the continued development of infrastructure and service quality, potentially improving the overall travel experience.

The country' s ability to attract and manage a large number of visitors also reflects the confidence in Turkey' s tourism industry on the international stage.
