Researchers at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) in Turkey have developed a new artificial intelligence (AI) application designed to analyse the structural robustness of buildings from photographs. Developed by Professor Dr. Şenol Hakan Kutoğlu from the Department of Geomatic Engineering and Geodesy, the tool identifies weak and strong points in structures, with particular relevance for earthquake resistance.

The application processes images through advanced AI algorithms, trained to recognise structural details and material properties that indicate a building' s condition and potential vulnerabilities during an earthquake. This offers a faster, non-invasive method for preliminary assessments, providing an early indication of which buildings may require further inspection or reinforcement.

This innovation is crucial for Turkey, a country frequently affected by seismic activity, offering a vital tool for building safety and disaster preparedness.
