Türkiye Grants Visa Exemption for Certain Algerian Citizens

Türkiye has announced a visa exemption for Algerian citizens under 15 and over 50 years old who hold ordinary passports and are travelling for tourism. The decision, announced on Friday, June 19, 2026, marks a significant change in entry regulations for travellers from Algeria.

This change primarily aims to stimulate tourism from Algeria by making it easier for families with young children and elderly travellers to visit Türkiye. For many Algerians, the visa process has historically been a barrier to spontaneous trips or longer holidays. By removing this obstacle, Türkiye hopes to become a more attractive destination for these groups.

The new rules apply specifically for tourist purposes and require an ordinary passport. Other age groups will still need to apply for a visa according to existing regulations. This selective measure indicates a targeted strategy to attract specific demographic segments, aiming to strengthen the overall tourism flow from Algeria. Travel operators and airlines are expected to see increased traffic as a result.
