Prosecutor Expands Probe into CHP Congress Vote-Rigging Claims
The Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office has expanded its ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities during the 38th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Turkey’s largest opposition party. The probe focuses on claims of interference in delegate voting at the congress.
As part of the expanded inquiry, prosecutors have requested extensive documentation from relevant institutions. This includes reports from MASAK (Financial Crimes Investigation Board), records of bank account movements, and social security information for all delegates who voted at the congress, as well as their first-degree relatives.
The request for financial and social data for such a large number of individuals, including family members, signals a broad and in-depth investigation. MASAK, Turkey’s primary authority against money laundering and terror financing, involvement underscores the seriousness of the case.
