Egypt Gains Russian Tourism Market Share from Turkey

Turkey’s tourism sector is experiencing increased competition in the Russian market, with more Russian travellers opting for Egypt. Turkish industry representatives indicate that premium hotels in Egypt are offering prices up to 30 percent lower than comparable options in Turkey for the summer 2026 season. This significant price difference has led to a notable surge in demand for Egyptian holidays among Russian tourists.

This development signals a shift in preferences within one of Turkey’s key tourism source markets. Russian holidaymakers, traditionally a large and stable group for Turkish destinations, are now seeking more cost-effective premium experiences in Egypt. The aggressive price competition from Egypt, particularly in the luxury hotel segment, is placing considerable pressure on Turkish tourism operators.

The price advantage allows Egypt to position itself as a highly attractive alternative for Russians desiring high-quality holidays at a lower cost. This trend could compel Turkish tour operators and hotels, especially those heavily reliant on the Russian market, to reassess their pricing strategies and offerings to maintain competitiveness or attract new market segments.

While the immediate impact is on the Russian market, such shifts in major tourist flows could indirectly affect Turkey' s broader tourism industry. A potential decrease in Russian visitor numbers might lead Turkish hotels and operators to adjust capacity and offers to draw visitors from other countries.

However, it remains uncertain if this will result in widespread price adjustments for all nationalities or specific offers to offset losses from the Russian segment.
