Turkish, Estonian Parliament Speakers Meet in Istanbul for NATO Talks

Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş held a bilateral meeting with his Estonian counterpart, Lauri Hussar, in Istanbul on June 29, 2026. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly summit and aimed to strengthen diplomatic and inter-parliamentary ties between Turkey and Estonia.

During their talks, Kurtulmuş underscored the importance of the Turkey-Estonia relationship, highlighting opportunities for expanded cooperation. He specifically pointed to Turkey’s growing defence industry, stating its capacity could significantly contribute to Estonia’s security efforts and national defence.

This focus on defence cooperation reflects a wider trend within NATO, encouraging member states to enhance their contributions to collective security. For Turkey, with its expanding defence industry, such bilateral agreements offer a platform to showcase its capabilities and reinforce its role within the alliance. Estonia, situated in the Baltic Sea region, maintains a strong focus on security and defence.
