Turkish forces search for arms caches following arrest of FETÖ member linked to coup attempt
Turkish security forces, representing a joint effort between the specialist police unit PÖH (Polis Özel Harekat) and the Gendarmerie command, have recently initiated extensive search operations aimed at locating weapons and ammunition caches.
These operations are being conducted in areas identified by Burkay Karatepe, a recently arrested member of the Fethullah Gülen movement (FETÖ).
Karatepe is accused of involvement in the failed assassination attempt against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Marmaris during the attempted coup in Turkey on 15 July 2016.
The case underscores Turkey' s persistent focus on uncovering and neutralising threats from organisations it designates as terrorist groups, particularly in the aftermath of significant political events.
Karatepe had been the subject of an Interpol red notice for ten years, highlighting his significance to the Turkish authorities.
