Antalya to host COP31 climate summit – promises lasting investment
Antalya is set to host the prestigious COP31 climate summit from 9 to 20 November, an event that is already driving significant investment into the city’s transport infrastructure and EXPO facilities.
According to Minister Murat Kurum, this move will not only place Antalya on the world map but will also leave behind lasting improvements for residents, tourists, and future visitors alike.
Preparations for COP31, the 31st session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, are well underway.
These investments include the upgrading of the transport network to ensure smooth traffic flow during the summit, as well as the development of new, modern EXPO areas designed to accommodate delegations and events. Minister Kurum has emphasised that the primary goal is to showcase Antalya as a modern and sustainable city to an international audience of leaders, experts, and activists from across the globe.
He specifically highlighted that the facilities being built and upgraded in connection with the summit are not temporary; rather, they are intended to remain as a permanent part of the city’s infrastructure.
In practical terms, this means that travellers, foreign residents, and those planning to visit the Antalya region will benefit from improved transport and new, modern facilities long into the future.
Hosting COP31 is also expected to strengthen Antalya’s position as an attractive destination for international tourism and business, with long-term positive effects for the entire region.
