Turkish autonomous vehicle, Ayaz, secures second place in global competition

A student team from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) has achieved significant international success in the field of robotics.

The team, known as RAKE (Robotik Arama Kurtarma Ekibi), recently secured second place globally in the prestigious Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) held in the United States.

Their developed autonomous ground vehicle, Ayaz, demonstrated Turkey' s growing competence in advanced robotics and self-driving systems on a global stage. The Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) is an annual event that challenges university students to design and construct unmanned ground platforms capable of operating autonomously across a variety of scenarios.

Ayaz is one such vehicle, designed to navigate and execute tasks without direct human intervention.

The fact that a Turkish team achieved such a high ranking in a competition held in the United States underscores the nation' s capacity to compete with international leaders in technological innovation. The achievement of the ITU students and their Ayaz vehicle marks an important step for Turkey’s technological development.

The development of autonomous systems is a high-priority area globally, with applications ranging from defence and logistics to search and rescue operations.
