Turkish Intelligence Academy: Turkey a Strategic Key Player for NATO

Turkey’s National Intelligence Academy (MİA) has published a report ahead of the upcoming NATO summit, titled ‘The Ankara Summit, NATO 3.0 Discussions and Turkey.’ The report underscores the critical importance of the Ankara Summit for NATO’s future and highlights Turkey’s increasingly vital strategic role within the alliance.

The MİA report states that Turkey is undergoing a transformation, evolving from a reliable ally into an actor that actively generates strategic added value for the alliance. This development positions Turkey as a more dynamic and crucial partner for NATO.

This evolution is rooted in Turkey’s ability to ensure its own security, develop expertise in critical technologies, and demonstrate resilience in combating hybrid threats – a key challenge for modern defence alliances. The report further notes Turkey’s capacity to convert its strategic autonomy into strengths that bolster the entire NATO alliance, indicating a deeper integration of its national security interests with NATO’s collective defence.

MİA emphasises that these qualities have made Turkey an indispensable strategic actor, rather than just a member, actively testing and strengthening NATO’s transformational capacity and future direction.
