Antalya-Alanya motorway to be extended towards Gazipaşa and Mersin

A crucial new phase plan for the motorway connecting Antalya and Alanya has been announced.

The proposal includes a significant extension of the motorway further east, towards the coastal towns of Gazipaşa and Mersin.

This project, which was announced by Çavuşoğlu on 5 September 2026, is expected to revolutionise the travel experience for both tourists and permanent residents in this popular Mediterranean region.

The existing 122-kilometre section of the Antalya-Alanya motorway has already reached 30 per cent physical completion.

This progress indicates that work to improve the region' s infrastructure is well underway.

The forthcoming extension will build upon this progress to create a more seamless and efficient travel route along the coast. Significant progress has been made on the existing section, and with 30 per cent of the current 122-kilometre motorway already finished, the project is well on its way to full realisation.

This section is vital for connecting the two major cities of Antalya and Alanya, which serve as central hubs for tourism and commerce.

The ongoing construction, along with the recently announced extension, underscores Turkey' s commitment to modernising its transport infrastructure.

The expansion of the motorway towards Gazipaşa and Mersin will have major practical implications for everyone travelling in the region.

Motorists will experience shorter journey times and a more comfortable driving experience when moving between the various coastal towns.

This will make it easier to explore areas such as Gazipaşa, which is known for its airport and beautiful natural scenery, as well as providing a connection to the larger city of Mersin.

For tourists, this means easier access to more attractions and destinations, while permanent residents will benefit from improved commuting options and better access to essential services.

For those planning to visit or live in the Antalya or Alanya region, this motorway expansion represents a significant improvement in travel conditions.

The project will likely contribute to increased tourism and regional development by making the area even more accessible and attractive to international visitors and foreign residents.
