EU Introduces €3 Customs Duty on Low-Value E-commerce Shipments

The European Union (EU) will introduce a new regulation effective July 1, 2026, imposing a fixed customs duty of €3 per package on all low-value e-commerce products purchased from third countries and shipped into the EU. This measure aims to simplify customs processing but will add new costs for importing goods.

Given that Turkey is not an EU member, all e-commerce shipments originating from Turkey will fall under this new tariff scheme. This means Turkish exporters, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and individual sellers, will face an additional cost that could affect their competitiveness in the European market.

While €3 may seem small per package, it could amount to a significant financial burden for Turkish businesses shipping large volumes of low-value items, such as handicrafts, textiles, and small electronics. The new duty may lead to increased prices for EU consumers or reduced profit margins for Turkish sellers, potentially dampening demand for Turkish low-value goods.

For Turkey, which maintains substantial trade volumes with the EU and has a growing e-commerce sector, this represents a new barrier to trade. The regulation underscores the need for Turkish companies to adapt to evolving international trade rules to sustain and develop their exports to Europe’s largest trading bloc.
