Turkey’s Natural Stone Sector Targets New Export Records and Global…

Turkey’s natural stone sector is poised to set new export records, strengthening its position in the global mining industry. The sector has already seen impressive growth, with exports to China increasing by 44 percent. Building on this success, Turkey is now looking to expand its reach into new markets, including Japan and Canada.

The Istanbul Mineral Exporters’ Association (İMİB), a key player in Turkey’s natural stone exports, is instrumental in driving this growth. Metin Çekiç, Chairman of İMİB, emphasised the ambition to elevate Turkey’s role from a mere exporter to a global brand builder. This strategic shift focuses not only on export volume but also on establishing Turkish natural stone as a recognised and valued product internationally.

The sector’s strategy involves diversifying its export base to reduce reliance on single markets, thereby contributing to greater long-term stability and growth potential. Significant investments in technology and processes are being made to meet international standards, crucial for enhancing competitiveness and accessing more demanding global markets. This effort is vital to achieving the desired position as a global brand.

Becoming a global brand for Turkish natural stone goes beyond sales, aiming to build a reputation for quality, design, and innovation. This can lead to higher prices for exported products and increased national revenue. A strong brand position is also expected to attract international investments and promote Turkey as a leading player in the global mining and construction materials industry.

The continued growth in the natural stone sector is anticipated to strengthen Turkey' s trade balance and positively contribute to its gross national product.
