World Bank Reviews Credit Terms for Turkey’s Building Completion…
The World Bank is currently reviewing credit and maturity terms for building completion insurance in Turkey, as stated by Ahmet Yaşar, President of the Insurance Association of Turkey (TSB), to Bloomberg HT. This initiative is expected to have significant implications for the country’s construction and real estate sectors, potentially enhancing financing opportunities for building projects.
Yaşar highlighted a strategic shift within Turkey' s insurance sector, moving from a sole focus on premium generation to a broader approach prioritising the expansion of insurance coverage. The aim is to increase the proportion of the population and property adequately insured against various risks.
A key component of this overhaul is the anticipated legal regulation for mandatory disaster insurance, which the TSB expects to be presented to the Turkish Parliament soon.
The introduction of such compulsory insurance would directly affect Turkish households and property owners, particularly given Turkey' s frequent exposure to natural disasters like earthquakes. The World Bank' s involvement in building completion insurance could help stabilise and strengthen Turkey' s construction industry, reducing risks of unfinished projects and protecting both buyers and investors.
These collective efforts underscore a commitment to modernise and fortify Turkey' s financial safety net, aiming for greater security and predictability.
